A Good Hunt

At a different woods, the team did well today, even if the squirrels beat us with the aid of lots of leaf cover. In the old days when we had rabbits, I wouldn't even start chasing squirrels until December.
Arnold the dog was nearly perfect today, infinitely better than Monday. Monday was not even worth writing up. On Monday Arnold contributed nothing to the hunt and Cisco was very much in the tidbit mode, so much so that I didn't feed him anything until he was home. I hooded him, and put him in the hawk box.
Today, in spite of his still high weight, Cisco was steady, working the squirrels for a couple of hours. Arnold stayed close and paid attention. Because of the leaves we missed seeing a lot of squirrels, but overall a very good day. The squirrel that we caught last Friday was Cisco's season earliest ever, so at this point any squirrels we catch are bonuses. Years back when Farrah was catching squirrels, she caught one on 9/29. That was the earliest squirrel catch overall.
